I read this novella in the Vikings Untamed anthology, which was received free in return for an honest review. After reading the Queen and Chieftains Duology, I read this book again. Even though it can standalone, it is so much better when read in sequence.
Holley Trent has become one of my favorite authors because of series like Shrew and Company, Desert Guards, Norseton Wolves, and this series. Some of her other works are in my TBR stack, but have quickly moved toward the top. I can't seem to get enough of her unique style and sage perspective on relationships and life in general. And I will be eagerly watching for her next book's release.
Will Calle left Norseton over a decade earlier and has returned with a PhD and a job at the mansion as a demographics and research specialist. He grew up next to Erin Peterson, five or so years younger than him and not even on his radar. When power began returning to the clan a few months before his return, however, be began dreaming of Erin, alerting him she is his other half. But after a short time in Erin's company, her behavior tells him that something is off. She doesn't respond like an Afotama. But the more they search for answers, the more secrets they uncover. As one Fallonite points out, the Afotoma have snakes in their house. And the housecleaning isn't over.
Holley Trent has a winner with this series. I love all of the residents of Norseton! Can't wait to read more.
This had been the best series. This series was very different but I have to say had been one of my favorites. Love the off spin series too.
Holley, you won my heart with all your Storafault books, the paranormal detective series too, but I really wasn't drawn in enough to get through more than a fifth of this one. Just not my thing.
Viking's Pride, Afotama Legacy, Book 2.5. I love this series and the 2 spin offs Norseton Volves and Hearth Hotel. (also is in the Vikings Untamed Box set) This short story sets up an new story arc, childern of the Fallon who have been secreatly taken from young parents and adopted into the Afotama. I loved Will. Erin was harder to like, but as the story unfolds and you gain an understanding of why she is the way she is and there is hope that Will will be able to settle her down some. I hope they have a 3rd mate, maybe one of Heath's Sidhe crew. I really liked Chris and Paul so hope they will have a story as well.
I love the Afotama books and I was so excited to read this latest installment! It was really good, but my only complaint is that it wasn't long enough. The heroine has felt out of place her entire life until she reunites with the boy next door who has returned a man. She's somewhat of a mess with lacking psychic gifts, sheltered naïveté, and confusion, but our hero brings her clarity and answers. My biggest gripe is that Trent didn't follow through or expound on the hints the hero dropped about his sexual nature and the darker side to his passions. I was hoping for more insight to that, but was left unfulfilled on that score. Overall, it was a nice addition to the series, and I am definitely looking forward to more!
